UNDERSTANDING THE BALLOT LANGUAGE

When voters consider the bond proposal, the ballot will ask whether they are FOR or AGAINST the issuance of bonds and the related tax. This wording reflects the legal structure of a bond election and refers to authorization for the school district to issue bonds and levy the taxes needed to repay them.

A vote FOR the bonds and tax authorizes the district to move forward with the proposed bond issue if approved by voters. A vote AGAINST the bonds and tax does not authorize the district to issue the bonds or levy taxes for repayment. The ballot language is not asking voters to select individual projects or components of the proposal, but rather whether the district should be authorized to proceed with the bond issue as presented.
